Diamond Ring Impressions

I wanted to spend some time today talking about one of my favourite subjects and that is how it is possible to make a diamond on an engagement ring (or any ring for that matter) look much bigger than it actually is. It’s important to remember that the style of any ring can have quite a big effect on the perceived size of the diamond so it’s definitely worth taking some time to choose the right one. Especially given that the bride’s wedding band would not be complete without it.

The illusion setting is quite a traditional technique that involves using a mirror like plate on the underside and on the sides of the ring. The effect can be quite impressive as the light really does get bounced around the surface of the diamond. One drawback though is that this plate is quite delicate and so if you need to have the ring/diamond repaired or modified at a later date it will cost much more.

Using more than one diamond is another favourite effect of mine and there are two main techniques that you can go for. The first is to use side stones which are positioned on the outside of the ring. While the stones all look separate the effect will still be quite dazzling. If you want to make the ring as a whole look more impressive then you may want to consider a pave setting which means the smaller diamonds are much closer together. The idea with a pave setting is that the smaller diamonds are close enough to each other that they all look like one big diamond. However you should always be cautious when using this effect as I have heard of many people spending just as much on a pave setting than a full diamond of equivalent size.

As you can see there are a number of points to consider when buying a diamond ring so always evaluate each technique before you take the plunge!

Do Wedding Rings Have To Be Boring Bands?

Wedding rings are traditionally exchanged between a man and a woman when they get married, and in general are simple bands of precious metal. The metal itself was usually yellow gold until recent years, when fashions changed somewhat, and many people now opt for white gold or platinum rings instead. The white colors give a more contemporary look to this type of jewelry; and to cater for younger or perhaps cash-strapped couples, there are also much more affordable wedding rings on the market now, made from sterling silver or titanium.

Although tradition has been to have a plain – boring even – metal wedding band, there is no rulebook dictating what specifications you have to adhere to. People are generally, and rightly, suiting themselves and opting for wedding rings that have beautiful and creative designs; rings that display their status as married couples, but also are wonderfully eye-catching and a pleasure to wear.

All this does not mean the plain gold wedding ring has had its day. There are many couples, both young and old, who still wish to stick with tradition and may be fairly conservative. However, for such a longlasting commitment, it pays to know that there is a huge range of possibilities now, so that you can investigate them all and find that absolutely perfect ring.

Some of the options available include wedding rings with engraved designs, or with solitaire gemstones set into them; and there are grooved rings made from a mix of different metals, to produce a ring with a central stripe, or perhaps a silver edged black ring. There are even ring sets which contain an engagement ring and a coordinated wedding ring, which is a great idea for the ladies, since both these rings will be worn together after the wedding ceremony; it would be a shame if the two rings did not match very well, or even worse if the metals were not matched, as one could cause damage to the other as they rub together.

So it pays dividends to think ahead when shopping for wedding rings, even to the point of considering them when you look for that first step to wedded bliss, the engagement ring.
